Sunday Drive

We took a little drive this afternoon to see the fall colors. The mountains are so beautiful this time of year. We "hiked" around a ski resort, listened to an outdoor concert and just enjoyed the beautiful fall weather.

Summer flashback: Scipio Rodeo

I went home to Scipio for the 24th of July Rodeo. It is the best and only day of the year to visit Scipio. The daughters of the Utah Pioneers (doopi daughters) put on a program, complete with cowboy poetry, skits, musical numbers, and the lamest jokes you can imagine. Then there are games in the park and the grand finale of the day is the rodeo.

Jason, who is usually quite skittish around animals, decided it would be fun to ride the sheep. Unfortunately he weighed to much to ride but he was able to do the pig chase. Look at him go!

The pig is right there- if he would have just dove for it he would have got it.

The rodeo was so much fun. More fun than I remembered as a kid- maybe because we always snuck in and I probably felt guilty. Can't wait till next year to make my annual pilgrimage home.

Stupid strep!!

Ever have those days that don't go the way you thought they would when you woke up in the morning? Kayla hasn't been feeling well, and it is obvious. She has been laying around and crying and she is pale and she had a low fever. I took her to the doctor this morning because all symptoms point to strep. And her test was positive. That part was easy. While I was at the doctor, I showed him Aaron's rash and asked him if it could be strep and I told him that Jason had a sore throat last night and this morning, but I sent him to school anyway (no other symptoms). So the doctor says "well, we are open 24 hours a day if you need to bring him in". He wouldn't give me a prescription for Jason. So I had to make another appointment and take Jason in. Fun, fun, Not. Poor Kayla. All she wants to do is rest and watch her movie and she had to spend another hour at the doctor for Jason. Then we had to go to the store to the medicine. Aaron has a rash all over, probably from strep. The first doctor said I didn't need to treat him -it would go away on its own. The second doctor said I should treat Aaron because he will keep re-infecting the rest of us. Luckily for us, Strep is treatable and we should be back to normal by Friday.

summer flashback: Jason's Birthday

Jason turned nine this August. He loves astronomy and wanted a telescope for his birthday.

The boys help celebrate with a late night party. One of the activities was going to be stargazing but it was cloudy than night. They had to play another round on the wii instead.

Kelly's niece got married this summer and asked Jason and Kayla to be part of her ring ceremony. It was a beautiful wedding (at least the parts I got to see. I had to leave early and catch a plane to Arizona for my grandpa's funeral.) The kids were excited to have a part in their cousins special day.

Taking one for the team

Jason took one for the team last week. He got hit with the soccer ball so hard that it left a red mark on his arm. His team this year is called the Golden Geckos. They haven't managed to pull of a win yet- maybe next Saturday.

Fun with Grandpa

Grandma and Grandpa's house is just like an amusement park. It even has rides. Notice that Jason is actually driving the mower, and he is doing a pretty good job.

Help us find the gingerbread man!

Kayla's kindergarten class is trying to find the gingerbread man. They made the cookies and put them in the school oven, but when they got the cookies back to the class room one was missing. It ran away! Please help us find him. If you live outside the Layton area (like Hawaii, Lani) please send a postcard from your area stating where you saw the gingerbread man. Kayla's class will keep track of where the gingerbread man has been sighted.

Google searching my own name

I did a google search on my name and I am referenced in this book Light and Life- pages 76-77 under A Shining Light for Education. I haven't worked with my little dino babies (bioluminescent dinoflagellates) for at least nine years but it was still fun to see my name in print.

Who's afraid of the big bad wolf?

Jason got his Wolf! We did it! Part of our summer was spent completing the requirements for Jason to earn his wolf badge in Scouts (before his birthday). Because of moving last spring and me just plain forgetting that scouts was on Thursday, we had to do a lot of the requirements on our own. So we picked up trash, built a bird feeder, locked our doors, visited the State Capital, swam, kicked, caught, read and cooked. Good job, Jason!

Where does it go?

Back in the day, Kelly and I used to like to drive out to Wendover. It is a nice two hour drive from Salt Lake. We would eat at the buffet and sometimes spend the night. We realized recently that it has been NINE years since we went out there. The last time we went, we were discussing baby names for Jason! Which brings up the question...Where does the time go?

I would be interested to know what your wendover is- that thing you used to do but just haven't.

I can't even remember the last time I played tennis either. Sad.

Peace and Quiet

This morning I got Jason and Kayla off to school then came home and put Aaron down for a nap. Then, aaah! peace and quiet. I didn't quite know what to do with myself. It was a strange and almost forgotten sensation. I remember this...this... thing called TIME. I got more done in an hour than I did the whole rest of the day. I would like to say that I read a book or did my nails but my list of "shoulds" is really backlogged. I have a stack of papers in the kitchen that is sort of a "deal with later" pile. I didn't get all the way through it, but I did find my new drivers license. I have a goal to spend ten minutes a day on the pile but even that doesn't happen very often. Aaron only slept for an hour but it was a beautiful golden hour.

Aaron is nine months old

When I took Aaron in to the doctor for his check up, the doctor told us that he is in the bottom third percentile for weight and I need to start feeding him more. Do those cheeks look hungry to you?
