Right now I am reading this book and I am fascinated. It is an easy read but it has given me a lot to think about. I don't want to give to much away but the author looks at several cases of very successful people and analyses what it took to make them successful and how we can use that knowledge to help others ( like our children) to be successful. Through this book, I am viewing life a little bit differently right now- love it when a book does that!Thursday, July 30, 2009
recommendations
I just watched this movie and I really liked it. It is about strenghtening your marriage and how God really wants marriages to work. It was very well done and thoughtful, so I am recommending it to all of you. If you have already seen it, let me know what you thought.

Sometimes I feel like I am going to run out of "goodness", the little extra patience and selflessness that life requires sometimes. That little extra you have to draw on when someone wants you to play Barbies but the sink is full of dishes and the laundry just got dry and you need to get it out before it wrinkles. Or when you are in the movie theater in a really good part of the movie and the baby starts fussing and you have to take him out. Or how 'bout when you find out, on your way out the door, that it is your day to bring treats and someone forgot to tell you. I think my "goodness" is like a jar of carmex. You use a little rub here and a little rub there and it seems to last forever but eventually it runs out. And when it does, I'm afraid I'll never say yes again. I will become the most selfish creature around. But by then maybe no one will notice because the kids won't be quite as dependent and demanding, or course by then, we will have to deal with aging parents . There is s fine line between mother and martyr ( we all know someone has to take the burned hot dog). I think that line is greased with carmex.Tuesday, July 21, 2009
Dear summer, part 2
Dear Summer,
Why are you in such a rush? Why do you think you have to go by so fast? Please slow down. What ever happened to lazy summer afternoons? Are you trying to burn yourself out in a blaze of glory? Speaking of blazes, could you maybe turn the heat down just a touch so the kids can play outside.
There is so much left to do and less and less time to do it in. Just thought I would ask.
XOXOX
ps. I still love you but you are wearing me out.

30 seconds more
I was cleaning up the kitchen and had my stack of fliers from the Sunday paper. I was going to set them on the microwave, then I thought "why not put them in the binder, where they belong". So I did and it took less than 30 seconds to do it. This got me thinking about how little extra effort it takes to finish the job right. How many more seconds does it take to actually put the clothes in the laundry basket as opposed to the floor. Or put the dishes in the dishwasher, instead of the sink. It is thirty seconds more. So my goal today is to take the extra time and put the scissors back in the drawer, the book back on the shelf and the diaper all the way out to the garbage can.
