Saturday afternoon Kelly came racing up the stairs, said a few words usually reserved for when the children are not present- and dashed out of the house. The guy who was supposed to be running the station did not show up- meaning there was NO ONE there. Luckily, Kelly was able to find someone to fill in for the afternoon, so he was able to turn around and come home in time for Jason's soccer game. When Kelly was able to get hold of the kid who was supposed to be working that afternoon, but had decided to go out of town instead, the response was "dude, I sent you a text saying I wasn't going to be there". Seriously, a text- not a call asking if he could have the day off- but a text saying he would be gone. It might work when you are a kid letting your mom know where you will be, but it is not the way to let someone know that you won't be showing up to work.

A similar thing happened Monday morning- No one showed up to do the morning show- the guy sent a text at 12:30 am saying he had a family emergency- doesn't help when you are asleep and don't hear the innocent little beep.

So come on people. Texting is not talking. It is not conversation. We know you are trying to avoid a potentially unpleasant situation where you might have to hear the word "no". Don't be a coward- pick up the phone and ASK.

classic movies

What Makes a Movie a Classic and what Movies do you Consider to be Classics?

I started thinking about this when I came across Good Will Hunting as I was channel surfing. That movie always sucks me in. I don't know what it is about it. It is just a good movie. I have seen it a lot, but when I come across it, I stay. I keep watching. I'll stay up way to late to watch it again. It started me thinking about what makes a classic movie. The same thing happens when I see the end of A Few Good Men- you know the part where "you can't handle the truth!!!!!". No matter how many times I see it, it is still good. So maybe that is the key- rewatchability. I also think timelessness has something to do with it-how well does the movie hold up over time.

In high school, my friends Bridget, Brandy and I watched Mystic Pizza and Pretty Woman almost every weekend. I came across Mystic Pizza again recently and it really didn't hold up, maybe because it is corney or maybe I'm just all grown up and can't relate to the characters anymore. That could be another part of the equation: relatability.

So according to me: rewatchability+timelessness+relatability= classic movie

How did I get on this road?

A few nights ago I found myself draped over the side of the crib at 3:30 am, gently rubbing the baby's back trying to get him back to sleep. I do not do well in the middle of the night. I am one of those people that can close my eyes and, in an ideal world, remain blissfully unconscous until the alarm goes off in the morning. I have not lived in an ideal world for a long time. I am prone to mood swings in the wee hours of the morning, ranging from stubborn determination to despair with a touch of anger. (WHY WON'T YOU JUST SLEEP!). It is not pretty.



I noticed my arms are going numb because the crib bars are cutting off my circulation- I must have dozed for a minute. This is when I ask myself, how did I get on this road? My baby is 17 months old and here I am, still up in the night. (I also tend to question my parenting skills at times like this)

I feel the need...

The need for speed! On the way down to Las Vegas there were several strips where the speed limit was 80 miles an hour. At first I thought it was a joke. But it was real. It is a test area and I guess if there is not

an increase in accidents it will become the normal speed limit through central Utah.

Spring Break- Las Vegas

The kids were a little bit disappointed when the scrumptious strawberry -chocolate cream pie turned out to be meat loaf with pink mashed potatoes.

But they liked the mashed potatoes with gravy that turned out to be ice cream with Carmel sauce.

Wednesday was a very exciting day for us. In addition to being April Fools Day, it was also School Lock Down- Police Chase day.

For some of you, this is old news, but in case you haven't heard, here is what happened:
I was talking with my friend Chrissy, planning a fun April Fools Day dinner for our kids, when I looked out my Kitchen window and saw four police cars parked in the street across the park and several more cars driving around the neighborhood. Several officers were running into someones back yard. Then I got a call from another friend telling me to close my garage door, lock my doors and stay inside, and don't let anyone in, because the police were looking for a robber. Then I heard that the Elementary School was under lock down "no one in- no one out". I called Kelly, and he decided to work from home for the rest of the afternoon. (It is nice to know he can get here so fast.)

High-speed chase locks down school, nets several arrests

CLEARFIELD -- What started as a routine forgery investigation ended up with the discovery of drugs and stolen credit cards, a high-speed chase, a school lockdown and five arrests.
Clearfield Assistant Police Chief Greg Krusi says detectives moved in on a motel room at the Day's Inn this morning as part of an investigation into some forged checks. What officers found was one suspect inside, along with numerous credit cards and some drugs.
Krusi says, at some point, two other suspects showed up. They didn't like the idea of being arrested and fled back to their car. "They evaded the officers, attempted to strike one of the officers who was attempting to stop them," Krusi said.

That led a chase through Clearfield and into Layton. The suspects bailed out of their car near 1450 West and 1150 South. Police arrested the car's driver, but the passenger got away.
Officers set up a containment area for about an hour as they searched through fields and yards. Nearby Heritage Elementary School was placed on an external lockdown, meaning no one was allowed to enter or leave the school.
The second suspect was located and taken into custody around 3 p.m., and the school was reopened.
"We're still trying to iron out everything, trying to determine who's involved and with what and where. So, this is small investigation will turn into a big one by the time we're done," Krusi said.
Back in Clearfield, two more suspects showed up at the motel room. They too were arrested. "It wasn't an in-depth investigation. We were just following up on a simple forgery, and it's kind of evolved," Krusi said.

Everyone was safe, but a day like this leaves you with a lot of "what ifs". I am also reminded that I need to be a little more cautious. I was outside in my back yard, like an idiot, with my baby, while the police were chasing a drugged out forger through my neighborhood. My garage was wide open, as it usually is. My daughter was playing outside in the front and going back and forth to her friends house. What if, what if, what if? These thoughts haunt me. Kayla hasn't wanted to play at anyone elses house since she got "locked down" at her friends house. I still feel very safe in my neighborhood. It was random chance that the chase ended here. And I am very grateful that the "what ifs" didn't happen and every one was safe and everything turned out OK.
