5,4,3,2,1... blast it! get me off this rocket

Wednesday was a big day. The lines were short so we headed to the rocket for the first ride of the day. Wow! that ride is high. I (bravely) got in the first line for "Blast off". The fabulous and amazing Chrissy decided to come with me for moral support, which as it turns out, I really needed. I sat down and as soon as that safety bar came over my head, I decided I wanted off. I didn't want to do it anymore, and what kind of stupid goal is this anyway? As the ride attendant came by to check our safety restraints, I (bravely) asked her if I could get off. She was really nice and was going to let me, then I remembered that I was going to have to do it sometime and there was no way I was going to wait in line to do it so I (terrifyingly) decided to go ahead. The whole thing was over in 20 seconds and it wasn't so bad. No worse than a roller coaster really. But I was shaking like a leaf when I walked off the ride. So what did we decide to do next? Some nice calm, safe, slow ride like the sky ride. NO! We went of Rocket Re-entry which is even scarier. Thanks for being there for me Chrissy and thank you Heidi for staying with the kids so I could check off two more rides, oh and thanks for laughing at us while we were freaking out in the air and you were safely on the ground.

summer lovin'

Have I mentioned that I LOVE Summer? And LAZY Sunday afternoons

and UNEXPECTED showers
and ICECREAM sandwiches....

being that woman

Our neighborhood recently had a huge yard sale and as I was sitting at my table, looking at the things I was trying to sell, I noticed something. There was a theme running through some of the items: a book on drying flowers, another book on bow-making, a wreath frame for creating wreaths from dried flowers. Hmmm...who is that woman who does those things. Obviously not me, although I wanted to be that woman and I thought I was that woman.

I recently got rid of a box of Family Fun magazines that I had been saving (for years) so I could do fun craft projects with my kids over the summer. After several summers of not doing that, I realized that I am not that woman (and my kids are not those kids). It was a nice thought but an even nicer thought is that its OK to not be that woman. I am just me. And I am fine how I am. It is enough to just be.

the simple truth...

I was watching a t.v. show with my kids- a little Disney Channel thing -and one of the characters was put under a spell where she had to tell the truth. She said some really brutal things and ended up being the most hated person in her school for awhile, until someone else did something awful and everyone moved on.

What struck me about this episode was how negative "the truth" was portrayed. Just because it's true, it doesn't have to be mean. Sometimes the truth is a beautiful thing. Everyone has something good about them, something to admire, something we desire to be more like ourselves. I think it would have been a better show if the character would have said something nice that she would have normally been to embarrassed to say out loud. For example: I have always secretly liked your clothes, I noticed that you helped someone and you thought no one was watching, I have a secret crush on you, I wish I was more like you. I wish I was as smart as you.
The truth can be a beautiful thing so I would like to say, to all of you, that I secretly admire a lot about you and in a lot of ways wish I was more like you.
